Eskrima Grandmaster vs Supreme Grandmaster!
Grandmaster Greg Henderson, founder of Diamondback Eskrima, and 72 year old supreme Grandmaster Ernesto Berdin have a friendly duel in Cebu, Philippines.
Australian representatives of Diamondback Eskrima, as well as Greg Henderson, traveled to the Philippines to train in the art with some of its most notable exponents.
Of all the experiences and sights those on the trip enjoyed, the friendly duel between two teachers was by far the most remembered, it demonstrates a level of speed, precision and control that is quite simply inhuman.
Please remember that this is one tiny excerpt of one tiny aspect of a much larger system. Saying, “This wouldn’t work against a prison yard rush” is somewhat ignorant, as this video is not demonstrating knife defence or knife fighting, rather a way to break down stick to stick work at close range, and develop speed, distance and reflexes.
Arnis, also known as Eskrima and Kali, is the national sport and martial art of the Philippines. The three are roughly interchangeable umbrella terms for the traditional martial arts of the Philippines (“Filipino Martial Arts,” or FMA) that emphasize weapon-based fighting with sticks, knives, bladed weapons and various improvised weapons.
