The staredowns were respectful but not friendly
With ticket sales starting on Monday, UFC held a press conference which featured all for female athletes who spoke on their opponents and predictions for the upcoming fights. Ronda Rousey admitted that this bout will be different from her latest battles as “The Preacher’s Daughter” has a significant reach advantage and is very good at counterpunching. However, Rousey showed no fear and maximum self-confidence. “She (Holly Holm) is a nineteen time boxing world champion, not MMA world champion. And I believe that I am better than every other girl in every area of MMA. MMA striking is different, I think I’m the best at it”, said the undefeated judoka.
As for her opponent, Holly Holm is also going to be rather careful and concentrated than over aggressive and risky. It’s hard to study your opponent’s strategy and style when her fights last just several seconds. “That’s why I put a lot of faith and a lot of trust in my coaches”, Holm underlined.
So perhaps we are in some other kind of a fight as Rousey’s and Holm’s approach suggests they can easily make the fight go the distance. This way or any other, the show is very likely to beat UFC’s sales records and Dana White is the one who obviously believes it will. “It’s the best decision I’ve ever made (to make the main event and the co-main event female). I mean, we’re sitting here in Melbourne, Australia with a main event and a co-main event of women with a possible 70 thousand seat arena sell-out. It’s never been done in the history of combat sports. And it’s awesome”, White stated while opening the presser.
