Jones was out before she hit the mat!(Watch slo mo replay at 10:41)
Holly Holm had a great boxing career with a record of 33-2-3 but being just a female boxing star was not enough for her. At the age of thirty “The Preacher’s Daughter” decided to pursue MMA career and started with a great win over Christina Domke at Fresquez Productions – Double Threat on March 4, 2011. Holm defeated Domke via TKO (leg kicks) and proved that her kicks are extremely dangerous in her next fight against Jan Finney which also ended with Holm’s victory, this time after a kick to the body.
With three win streak (Holm finished Katie Merrill at Bellator 91 on February 28, 2013) Holly Holm was set to meet Allanna Jones in the main card for LFC 21. The bout ended in the second round with a stunning knockout and was dubbed the fight of the week by “Inside MMA” on AXS TV. Though Jones concentrated on defense in the opening round, Holm remained patient, pumping her right jab. The second round was a twist in the plot as Holly switched to head kicks and front kicks. One of them was an example of perfect power and timing balance and dropped Jones to the mat out cold. Holm rushed for the kill but that was not necessary.
Today Holm has an MMA record of nine wins and no losses and in January she’s going to be another one who’ll try to deprive Ronda Rousey of her bantamweight title. Previously she considered a Rousey fight calling it “an ultimate goal” but, as Holm told “Inside MMA”, she expected Sarah Kaufmann to be her next opponent. Now Holm feels very positive about fighting Rousey instead: “I’m so excited about the announcement. It was definitely unexpected. This is something totally new. I just want to make the most of it; I’m so excited. I love when a challenge is thrown at me. I really want to jump in.”
