And don’t miss Bas Rutten playing the ref’s part!
In just a little more than two months Kimbo Slice will face Ken Shamrock in the main event of Bellator: Unfinished Business. While Shamrock in his pre-fight interviews speaks mainly on health and age matters, Kimbo, according to Sherdog, is aggressive and threatening: “Ken Shedrack, I owe you this ass whooping. No more running! No more hiding!”
What you need to know, in case you don’t, is that Kimbo and Ken were set to fight in October 2008 at Elite XC: Heat. But the clash was cancelled at the last moment due to Shamrock’s cut suffered during a warm-up. That time Kimbo lost to the replacement Seth Petruzelli by TKO (punches) and sure the bearded Bahama native wants to meet Shamrock badly.
There’s not much known about the way Kimbo gets ready for the fight but he sure should pay some attention to wrestling. The facts to be considered are that Kimbo has no fights on his MMA record won by any wrestling techniques. On the contrary, Ken Shamrock’s wrestling skills helped him to defeat more than twenty opponents, his favorite moves being a heel hook, a rear naked choke and an arm triangle choke.
This video shows how Kimbo trained wrestling back in 2008. His sparring partner is Milan Jovanovic. He started his powerlifting career in 1998 and since that time won nine national championships in a row in his native Serbia and two world titles. In 2003 he took part in the Serbian Strongman competition and two years later was the fifth overall in the United Strongman Series competition. Unfortunately he had to retire the following year due to an injury, his Strongman comeback happened in 2010.
While he remained aside of the competition, Milan worked as a bodyguard for Mickey Rourke and Kimbo Slice. According to Bas Rutten, Jovanovic works as Kimbo’s strength coach too and you can see he’s got everything for that job. By the way, in Serbia Milan is also known as a popular writer and a blogger for local “Playboy” edition.
