What didn’t come true in 2008, gonna happen seven years later!
Now, this is official – after five year absence Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson comes back to MMA as a main event participant for Bellator show in June. If you recall, he signed with Bellator in January, 2015, his previous fight against Matt Mitrione at UFC 113 being lost by TKO (punches).
While MMA audience kept waiting (didn’t we?) for Kimbo’s return, he took to pro boxing, his seven bouts all ending in wins, six of them by knockout. So the main intrigue since his sign up with Bellator in January was – who will oppose the 41-year old heavyweight Youtube sensation? The answer is called Ken “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” Shamrock. Shamrock is 51 now and he haven’t been in the cage since his loss to Mike Bourke at KOTC Platinum in 2010 (TKO, punches). While Kimbo’s five MMA-free years were filled with boxing, Shamrock spent his in a world of music and poetry, working as a security guard for rapper 50 Cent. But it’s not his contribution to the development of rap but his numerous wins that made him a UFC’s Hall of famer.
Actually, this fight should have happened in 2008 – Kimbo and Ken were scheduled to meet at Elite XC: Heat. The video supplied here belongs just to that time. But that bout was cancelled due to Shamrock’s cut suffered during a warm-up. Shamrock was then replaced by Seth Petruzelli who finished Kimbo in 14 secs by TKO (punches).
Well, now Shamrock’s ready to rumble, saying in an interview that he’s “going to spank Kimbo like a child”. We can only pray and hope it doesn’t go Bob Sapp’s way, when all fury, aggression and spirits shown at the weigh-ins and press-conferences – puff! – turn into nothing in the cage. Anyway, the fight is scheduled to June, 20th and is reported to be shown live on Spike TV.
