It would be a big mistake to look at Joe Rogan as just the UFC commentator who speaks clichés and annoys a lot of combat sports fans. With his huge life and professional experience Joe Rogan is the guy who often produces thoughts and wits that are very well worth anyone’s attention. As a part-owner of the Onnit company which specializes in fitness equipment, balanced nootropics foods and supplements for human optimization and also sponsors Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Rogan shared his motivation speech on Youtube and if you need motivation in your life, this a good thing to listen to.
“If your life was a movie, and it started now – forget about whatever financial disasters you’ve had, personal failures, relationship failures – what would the hero of your life’s movie do right now? Do that! Do those things,” Rogan says. We often focus too much on the mistakes we made in the past. Bad things, stupid things or just wrong things we have in the background affect our self-esteem. In Rogan’s words, “We say ‘Well, that’s me.’ That’s not you. You are this person right now. You’re the person who’s learned from those failures and you can choose to be the hero of your own movie right now.”
It’s not just about imagining what Bruce Willis or Brian Boitano would do. It’s about systematic mental work. Rogan’s advice to those who got stuck in their lives is to write down everything – goals, things that need to be improved, things that must not be tolerated, deeds of the past that must not be repeated. The other crucial thing is building confidence and looking for the sources of inspiration: “We live in unique times. We live in one of the rarest times in human history, where you can choose almost all of the input that comes your way, whether it’s the movies that you watch, the books you read, the podcasts you listen to, you can choose to be inspired. Do that. Do that and be the hero of your own movie.”
