Patricky Pitbull’s flying knee stuns Toby Imada and leads to the end
High stakes and one crucial shot – that’s the brief description of the bout between Patricky “Pitbull” Freire and Toby Imada at Bellator Fighting Championship 39. Fighters met in the cage on April 2nd, 2011 in Mohegan Sun Arena (Uncasville, Connecticut, USA) in a lightweight-tourney semifinal. The outcome was quite meaningful for both, as Freire and Imada fought for the first spot in the organization’s tourney finale next month. The lucky one would find himself one win away from $100,000 and a title fight. Before the start a lot of people would consider Imada more likely to win, because he was a two-time Bellator tourney runner-up but “Pitbull” had his own opinion on the issue.
His first low kick was stumbling, the second one was vicious and the third one became a hatchet to Imada’s leg. Toby Imada managed to block Freire’s punches but immediately missed a body kick. And then Patricky “Pitbull” exploded like some lightweight MMA H-bomb! The only difference is that an H-bomb totally annihilates everything in the area and Freire, on the contrary, was perfectly precise. That’s a cold comfort for Imada, though – his opponent performed a flying knee which actually knocked out Imada or at least got him very close to being KOed. You can see the poor guy standing on his feet almost unconscious, his feet tiptoeing all out of control. If Toby had fallen down, the nightmare would be over for him, but he kept standing, so Freire landed three more brutal punches which finally dropped Inada on the canvas. He couldn’t leave the cage himself, so they had to stretcher him and leave Patricky Freire face to face with his triumph.
It was a splendid win but Freire was not so lucky in the final. At Bellator 44 he faced Michael Chandler in a title bout and lost via unanimous decision.
