Surprisingly many takedowns for a two-hitters sparring
Nice guys always find time to have some fun even in the course of hard training. This video, shot in 2013, earned a huge amount of views recently after Conor McGregor stated he and Ronda Rousey would easily beat Floyd Mayweather. “In a real fight, I would dismantle him in seconds. Ronda would dismantle him in seconds – 100 percent. When you don’t know how to grapple, you don’t stand a chance. For us, it’s like playing with a baby. People who don’t understand the sport cannot understand how vulnerable they are”, Conor said to the Guardian.
That’s when the short video of “The Notorious” sparring with the Irish pro boxer Patrick Hyland came out again. What we see here is two fighters who have a bit of light hearted shot exchange with maximum respect for each other. Hyland is smaller and lighter than McGregor, but he doesn’t lose his spirit and rushes for numerous takedowns. Conor is not much of a grappler himself but his ground game is strong enough to confront Hyland and even outwrestle him in the very end of the sparring.
By the way, it’s not the first time Conor McGregor speaks on his possible (and highly desirable) fight against Mayweather. In April this year McGregor said he would beat Mayweather in only thirty seconds and “wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him”. Mayweather, in response, called Conor a “joke” and added: “I don’t take that dude seriously. He’s just trying to get himself some publicity.” Yeah, like he doesn’t have enough already.
