Saenchai expressed the desire for a new challenge outside of Muay Thai, and seems destined to compete in MMA. He has received an invitation to train with GSP at Tristar gym in Canada. Tristar head coach Firas Zahabi confirmed that he has been in contact with Saenchai and will host the Muay Thai legend in the future.
In a country where MMA has long been illegal, undoubtedly to maintain the legitimacy and tradition of Muay Thai, a grassroots movement has begun in Thailand. 2016 could be a huge year for MMA in Thailand. One thing that is often stated by Muay Thai fighters and fans is that there has yet to be a legitimate Muay Thai fighter to compete in MMA. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
