Ben Askren demonstrates the power of his body lock

Watermelons never hit back!

Fighters often do something weird. We saw Kimbo Slice who made his friend spar with a refrigerator, we admired Andrei Arlovski who played King Leonidas with his epic this-is-sparta kick and we were absolutely fascinated by Mike Tyson’s unboxing. Today we’re going to add Ben Askren to that list.
A former member of the USA national wrestling Olympic team, Askren is famous for his immaculate grappling. Many fighters felt the power of his body lock in his Bellator years, Bakhtiyar Abbasov, Nobutatsu Suzuki and Luis Santos did that under the ONE Championship banner, now it’s time for the vegetable world to learn how does it feel to be unfriendly hugged by Askren. It takes only some seconds for “Funky” to crush two poor watermelons, one after another. Of course, we all know, vegetables, fruits and berries don’t hit back (actually, they don’t resist at all!), but the video is impressive, anyway.
It’s been not a long time ago when Askren was considered one of the fighters definitely wanted by UFC. However, Dana White refused to sign him up on his release from Bellator, so one of the most prominent America’s wrestlers moved to ONE Championship where he added two more wins to his record which is 14-0 now (the bout against Luis Santos ended a no contest as Askren unintentionally poked Santos in the eye in the opening round). It looks like today Askren doesn’t regret it at all. He doesn’t only crush watermelons, what’s more important – he has a greater freedom of speech, fighting at ONE. “There’s not really anything else (Dana White, the president of the UFC – Double-Knockout.Com) can do to me, so I can say whatever I want. I have UFC fighters text me all the time with either ideas for something to say, or saying, ‘Thanks for speaking up’”, Askren said to MMAJunkie.
