Amir Khan playing party tricks in a gym

Boxer Amir Khan is pretty slick with his hands

Five years have passed since Amir Khan’s US debut – he defeated Paulie Malignaggi at the Theater in Madison Square Garden in March, 2010 in the 11-round bout for the WBA light welterweight title. This spring Khan comes back to NY to face Chris Algiery (20-1, 8 KOs) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn at the main event for Premier Boxing Champions (live on Spike TV). The British boxing star (30-3, 19 KOs) said he looks forward for the moment to jump in the ring in the city which gave him “happy memories”. “Algieri has shared the ring with some tremendous fighters and shown great skills in those fights so I know I will need to be at my very best when we meet. In all my fights I bring excitement, speed and skill and can guarantee more fireworks on May 29 at Barclays Center”, Khan underlined in the statement to his official website.

However, New York was a lucky place for Khan’s opponent as well. Besides, Algieri’s happy memories are four years fresher – he won the WBO light welterweight title in a fight against Russia’s Ruslan Provodnikov by split decision. The referees’ verdict was called controversial by many, as Algiery suffered two knockdowns in the opening round already and got a huge swelling all over the right eye. But a fact is a fact – he also has something to thank NY for: “Fighting at Barclays Center, where I won my world title just under a year ago, is an added bonus. Amir Khan is a tested champion and is the matchup that I wanted. I believe this is a fight that will bring the best out of me”. The non-obvious win over Provodnikov and the following loss to Manny Paquiao will be an extra motivation factor – Algiery needs a victory no one will doubt.

Amir Khan may have a hard time, as the crowd will be more likely to support their fellow countryman – Algiery was born in Huntington, which belongs to the New York metropolitan area. But right now he is in good mood, judging by this video. The 40-second footage was uploaded at Khan’s wife, Faryal Makhdoom, Youtube channel. Some call it a fake or a commercial, as Khan plays with and then hits a Maxi Nutrition bottle, but, anyway, this is a cool trick and fun to watch. And just a month later there will be no time for fooling around, so let’s just wait a little.
